"Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater
than he who is in the world." - 1 John 4:4
Life is a lot like the game of Dodgeball. We're all familiar with the classic gym class game where balls are lined up in the center of the room, and two opposing teams go head-to- head by hurling balls at one another until there is only one person left standing. The game is simple, if you get hit by a ball you are out.
Do you ever feel like the enemy is throwing things at you left and right and you are just trying to dodge your way through life? Spiritual warfare is a very real thing and our circumstances can often add to the mix, but because of Jesus we have already won the battle!
In dodgeball there is another way you can win besides just trying to avoid getting hit by the ball. You can catch the ball that is thrown at you! If you catch the ball, the opponent that threw the ball is out and you can continue throwing to win the game. The same goes for us in life with Christ! We have the ability to receive His love, and play offense by declaring God's truth and promises over our lives to combat the enemy's lies.
In Jesus, we no longer have to live on the defensive because "...being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." Phillipians 2:8 When negative thoughts or lies are thrown at us from our adversary, the Devil, we can squash them with the very Word of God, which is sharper than any double-edged sword. He died for us not only to save us and give us Heaven forever, but so that we may walk in complete freedom and confidence that He will protect and provide, which is available to us RIGHT NOW!
So the next time you feel like you are dodging the troubles of this world, remember that in the Bible you have all the tools you could ever need to fight the lies of the enemy, and the Most Valuable Player, King Jesus, is already on your team!
1) Do you feel like you are playing offense or defense in life right now?
2) Are there any lies in your life that you are believing? If so, take some time to ask God
what He thinks of you!
3) Read Colossians 1:11-14 and be encouraged!
Heavenly Father, thank you for laying your life down for us and saving us by dying on a cross. We thank you that you defeated the grave so that we may have abundant life in You. Help us to call upon your Great Name with confidence and lean on you through the trials as well as
the joys of life. We love you so much Jesus! Amen!
